A survival loop built around the camp
Leave the settlement to gather food, medicine, parts and building materials. What you carry home shapes the next day: feed residents, repair gear, strengthen defenses and choose which route to risk next.
The current game systems include hunger, thirst, health, stamina and carrying weight. Fish, hunt, farm, cook and preserve food. Rain collectors and wells help sustain the camp.
Weather changes the expedition
Rain fills collectors and waters crops while dampening sound. It also leaves you wet as colder nights arrive. Fog shortens sight and sound range. A trip that seems safe in daylight can change sharply at dusk.
Noise matters during combat. Gunfire and sprinting draw nearby undead; quieter weapons, suppressors and distractions offer different ways through an area.
Build a defensible settlement
Build shelters and workstations, upgrade walls, place traps and turrets, and power lights and electric fencing with generators. Survivors can take jobs including farming, guarding, cooking, scavenging, medicine and engineering. Their beds, food and morale need attention.
The camp is also where each trip pays off. Resources become ammunition, medical supplies, equipment upgrades and better defenses. Raids make those choices matter.
Explore beyond the walls
Search forests, houses, an outpost and underground areas. Jobs, events and journal clues lead farther into the story. Different enemies call for different tactics, while equipment wear makes preparation part of survival.
Story, Survivor and Hardcore modes offer different death rules. This page describes systems represented in the current game guide; the game itself remains in development.
